Oesophageal adenocarcinoma is the fifth commonest cause of cancer death in the UK and arises almost exclusively from areas of Barrett’s oesophagus (BE). The research focuses on development of optical diagnostic and therapeutic tools for managing pre-cancerous changes in Barrett’s oesophagus. More recently, the work is expanding into other detection methods for biomarkers of malignant progression of BE, most notably image cytometry to detect DNA content abnormalities.
