Biography

As Consultant Neonatologist at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, I have a longstanding interest in perinatal brain injury, and completed a PhD at University College London where I researched the assessment of novel optical techniques to assess cerebral oxygenation in the new-born infant. I currently run the Cambridge Centre for Perinatal Neuroscience, which includes a dedicated new-born functional brain-imaging unit at the Rosie Hospital, the Evelyn Perinatal Imaging Centre. My research interests are in the development of technologies to identify sick infants at an early stage and in the development of novel imaging techniques to study brain function and development. I’m also interested in the challenges of applying best research to improve clinical care for new-born infants and have recently led on a regional project developing a coordinated service for neuroprotection in the East of England.
