Dr RJ Shipley joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering at UCL on 1st May 2012. She graduated with a 1st class Masters Degree in Mathematics at the University of Oxford in May 2005, before completing a DPhil at the Oxford Centre for Industrial and Applied Mathematics, University of Oxford in December 2008 (thesis title: ‘Multiscale Modelling of Fluid and Drug Transport in Vascular Tumours’). Having confirmed her research interests in mathematical biology, Dr Shipley then took up a Junior Research Fellowship at Christ Church College, Oxford, focusing on mathematical models of vascularized tissues (including heart, liver and tumours) as well as tissue engineering applications. During this time, she also held a Visiting Research Fellowship at the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, University of Bath, where she performed experimental work to complement her mathematical descriptions of bioreactor systems. She has extensive experience of working with collaborators ranging from clinicians to experimentalists to theoreticians.
