by Benedetta Biffi

Siemens Healthcare is one of the world’s largest suppliers of technology to the healthcare industry and a leader in medical imaging. It has around 43,000 employees and generates revenues in excess of £8 billion per year. The department of Medical Imaging Technologies (formally Siemens Corporate Research SCR) has a global responsibility for key research and scientific development. These scientific contributions have resulted in multiple new clinical products for improving the quality of healthcare, in the fields of image-guided therapy, diagnostic imaging, and personalized medicine. This talk will highlight the current technologies that will build the products of tomorrow and provide insight into the process of taking an idea from concept to product in a corporate environment.

Peter Mountney is a Senior Research Scientist at Siemens Healthcare and a Visiting Lecturer at Kings College London in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. His research interests lie in the fields of medical imaging, image guided interventions, computer assisted surgery, augmented reality, computer vision and robotics. His research focuses on developing core technologies and the transition of technology into the operating room. He has held a number of research and innovation roles at Siemens Healthcare in the Germany, USA and UK working with the X-ray and Angiography, Ultrasound and Magnetic Resonance Imaging businesses.
