Quantification of bowel motility using MRI - validation and clinical implementation

by Katie Konyn
Events
Clinical Seminar

Assessment of small bowel motility remains an important target in patients with gastrointestinal symptoms. Aberrant small bowel motility has been described in a range of diseases from inflammatory disorders such as Crohns disease to more functional problems such as chronic intestinal pseudo-obstruction to irritable bowel syndrome.

It is now possible to image bowel motility using MRI with high spatial and temporal resolution. Recent collaboration between the Centre for Medical Imaging and Centre for Medical imaging computing at UCL has led to the development of software based on image registration that can now meaningfully quantify this motility. This presentation will describe the clinical validation of the technology and clinical translation into patient groups.
