Novel Imaging Development for Neuromuscular Disease

Current Projects

Important new treatments for people with muscle-wasting neuromuscular diseases are emerging, and to test these effectively new treatment-response measures are required. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provided methods to probe muscle tissue water and lipid mobility and distribution, and investigate chemically-specific changes occurring in neuromuscular diseases. This research will involve physics-led development of new MRI treatment outcome measures, with possible methods including sodium MRI of muscle or diffusion imaging, with the aim of practical deployment in upcoming early human trials of new treatments to be hosted at the MRC Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases.
