A personal entrepreneurial journey: lessons learned

by Georgina Cade

Jerry Allen shares a depth and breadth of entrepreneurial experience spanning multiple sectors with 7 start-ups over 20 years providing a rich experience of mistakes made and lessons learned. The resultant key messages are designed to encourage today’s nascent entrepreneur with the development of a new business idea whilst avoiding the common pitfalls to achieve their entrepreneurial potential more efficiently and effectively.

As Director for Entrepreneurship at UCL. I have a truly awe inspiring role to encourage talent across the UCL landscape. My current focus is rebuilding the entrepreneurial offer particularly to the 10,000 PhD and Early Career Researchers. In 2016 I had the privilege to be appointed by Mayor of London the Student Entrepreneur Trainer/Advisor. Previously, at University of Greenwich, I created EU projects raising over €6m to promote innovation and enterprise, latterly in social innovation and entrepreneurship amongst refugee groups. With 20 years in research, 7 start-ups, I am ‘a bit of an ‘maverick’ spanning the academic and commercial worlds.
